The methods may be different. It all depends on the size, design and material from which
water storage tanks are made. If the dimensions allow, then, if possible, it is better to place the tanks in a area where the air temperature does not drop below 0°C. If this is not possible, the tanks can be used outdoors, taking all measures to ensure that the water in them does not freeze:
- Insulate the tank with a layer of thermal insulation. Mineral wool or liquid two-component polyurethane foam can be used to insulate cylindrical metal tanks. Polyurethane foam spraying on the outer surface of the tank provides high thermal insulation properties, waterproofing and protection of metal walls against corrosion. Mineral wool waterproofing is significantly inferior in terms of service life. If pipes and valves are connected to the tank, they are also insulated.
- Provide heating of the tank (metal). To maintain the optimal water temperature, outdoor steel tanks and reservoirs can be heated. Different methods can be used, depending on the availability of heat sources: electric heaters and cables (if you have a generator at your disposal, because they require electricity for their operation), gas burners, stoves, open fire sources. An immersive electric water heater is suitable for plastic reservoirs and tanks, but again, it requires electricity.
- Buy larger tanks, because the more water, the longer it will freeze. Give preference to round-shaped tanks, because they better insulate against frost due to a smaller contact area.
- Ensure liquid circulation in the tank. Moving water has more energy, so it needs a lower temperature to freeze. This will require a circulation pump and, accordingly, a generator.
- Install the tank in the ground below the level of soil freezing (for each climatic region, the depth of soil freezing may differ). But first, it is necessary to find out about the depth of underground water, so that under their influence the tank does not squeeze out. You can make the tanks partially buried with good thermal insulation or a heating system.
Modular tanks of various types
The most convenient and practical way to store drinking, fire and technical water in large quantities is
modular tanks. These are quick-assembled structures consisting of a galvanized frame and corrugated sheets, which are fastened with bolted connections. The tightness of the tank is ensured by an environmentally safe polypropylene insert, which reacts neutrally to water and does not emit toxic components.
Modular tanks can be installed outdoors, indoors and even underground. Underground modifications are chosen when there is not much space either indoors or outdoors. Above-ground tanks, which are intended for year-round operation, are well insulated and equipped with heating systems (a generator is also required). Underground tanks are not equipped with heating, only thermal insulation – the thickness of the layer is calculated depending on the climate zone.
Why is it profitable with us?
“Aquapolymer Engineering” company offers
to order a tank for water storage in Ukraine. We have been designing and installing modular tanks for over 10 years. The accumulated experience allows us to offer the most optimal standard size and equipment of the tank so that the water does not freeze in it in winter.
